Valentine's Day Bacteria

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all

Bacteria reproduce asexually, which means that they don't need to find a partner to reproduce. Instead, they undergo binary fission, which creates daughter bacteria which are genetically identical to the parent bacteria. SO, bacteria have different ways of sharing their genes to mix up the gene pool, so their offspring won't be the same as themselves.

One of those ways is conjugation. Which is basically bacterial sex.
